Reality Shock!!
Finishing school and entering into the world of professional nursing can be both an exciting time as well as a scary one! While you have worked hard to get to this point, sometimes the reality of being a Registered Nurse with all of the associated responsibilities can be a little overwhelming. The purpose of this blog is to help give you some support as well as some tools that can help you make this transition. It is my hope that by sharing this information as well as you sharing some feedback, I can help you be successful on this journey! I will discuss such topics as choosing the right organization to work for, different types of orientation programs, as well as relationships with preceptors and mentors. Please feel free to comment or suggest topics of interest and I will do my best to accomodate these.

Barbara,
ReplyDeleteGreat start! These are a few of the things I wished that would have been addressed when I was getting out into the nursing work world! Great job thinking about the insecurities our new nurses are facing and how to guide them through!

Barb, great topic. You mentioned how to pick the first organization you work for. I would love to see you develop this topic. When I graduated I picked the hospital I was working at as a Nurse Tech. Now, I do nursing orientation at my hospital and sometimes I wonder how/why the new grads coming through choose a hospital.
ReplyDeleteYes most choose it by location. Many students go back to their hometown and choose a local hospital. I think this is a great resource that hopefully will continue to be utilized for students that near graduation.
